Guillestre

01.07.2006 - 05.07.2006

Destination

The SunTour 2005 location (Beaufort) was deliberately chosen for and into the northern part of the Maritime Alps. For 2006 we go a little bit further south for more highlights we couldn´t reach in 2005, even though the journey to our new location will be more inconvenient and longer.

The tour goes into the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d´Azur, which lies in the Departement Hautes-Alpes (05). Our hotel is located in:

Guillestre

N 44º 39' 43,2", E 06º 38' 56,5"

Guillestre, a small village with 2211 inhabitants and slightly below 3300 feet above see level is located on the main route N94 between Gap and Briancon. Besides that Guillestre is the initial point of three valleys of which one leads to Italy which made Guillestre strategically important in the past. A indication for the military strategic importance is the until now well preserved fortress Mont Dauphine. Guillestre itself has preserved over time a beautiful city centre with restaurants, street caffe´s and old houses and that despite the central position on the N94. That creates a certain spirit especially in the evening, inviting you to stay longer.

It was the central position in the Maritime Alps and not the N94 that let us chose Guillestre. It is easy for us to select and compile three tours with passes like Col D`Izoard, Col de Champs and gravel roads like the famous Col de Parpaillon.

Schedule

We chose again July for the SunTour 2006 due to the fact that we are pretty close to the highest drivable pass of the Alps and because of the positive experience we made in 2005.

The journey to the Hotel will be July Saturday 1st 2006. As usual we are planing to do three tours during the course of the day again and thus the journey back home will be Wednesday July 5th 2006. As last year the hotel invites us to stay longer and enjoy it and its not hard to accept it as it is the perfect premises for that.

The photos (as we got them from you ) of the complete 2006 tour are now online.

Hotel

Catinat Fleuri This years hotel will be "Le Catinat Fleuri". and it's located just 300 yards off the city center. The hotel offers enough parking space in front and in the back for all of us. Garten
Frühstücksraum

The meals were perfect during our stay (3 to 4 course menus).

The rooms are big enough and are equipped with TV, Phone, bath and a balcony. They even provide a hair dryer for your soaked gloves. ;-)

Zimmer1 Zimmer2
Camping

There is a camping ground which is belonging to the hotel as some cottages do which provide enough space for 4 to 6 persons. This is the first year where we can offer something for our outdoor freaks as well.

Chalet
Pool

As a highlight the hotel has got an swimming pool on its premises for those among us skipping the bike tour. We believe that this time we got it right and there is no excuse for our not so enthusiastic bikers or spouses not to join in with such facilities the hotel and Guillestre offers.
